THE ABROTHECARY

Whimsical Charcuterie Board

There’s something deeply magical about New Year’s Eve — the quiet pause before midnight, candlelight flickering, glasses clinking, and a table set with beautiful things meant to be shared. This whimsical charcuterie board is my favorite way to welcome the new year: abundant, unfussy, and just a little enchanted. It feels like something you’d stumble upon in a cozy tavern at the edge of the forest, laid out for travelers to gather, nibble, and reflect before the clock strikes twelve.

This board balances sweet and savory, creamy and crisp, with fresh herbs and edible flowers woven throughout for a natural, old-world feel. Best of all, it’s easy to assemble — leaving you more time to enjoy the night.

Charcuterie boards are a New Year’s Eve classic because they invite grazing, conversation, and lingering. No one is rushing to sit down for a formal meal — instead, everyone can nibble between sips of champagne and countdowns. The baked brie adds warmth and indulgence, while the fruit, herbs, and flowers keep everything feeling fresh and celebratory.

Instructions

  1. Bake brie. Then place the baked brie near the center of your board, with the blueberry goat cheese slightly off to one side.
  1. Place the cheese on the board followed by the meats. Find places to put the apples, blackberries, crackers, and other necessities.
  1. Scatter cashews, rosemary, and chamomile flowers in the gaps on the board.
  1. Enjoy!

Hint: To keep apple slices from browning, toss them lightly with lemon juice before arranging them on the board — the tartness also pairs beautifully with the creamy cheeses.

How to Make the Baked Brie with Honey & Cashews

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Place the wheel of brie in a small oven-safe dish or on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Bake for 10–12 minutes, until the brie is soft to the touch and just beginning to ooze in the center (be careful not to overbake).
  • Remove from the oven and immediately drizzle with honey.

  • Serve warm — this is best enjoyed right away while the center is luxuriously melty.
